A CASA is a Court Appointed Special Advocate β a volunteer who is often the single lifeline for a neglected or abused child navigating the child welfare and judicial system, frequently alone.
Beyond CASAs, our caregivers are nurses, doctors, teachers, therapists, counselors, case workers and human rights advocates. These are the people on the front lines of caring, and they themselves are lacking support.
We know that many of our best, brightest and most important caregivers are facing burnout and secondary trauma that surpasses any we have seen in recent years.
Why We Started This
When our founder Gina Murdock became a CASA in 2020, she was shocked that this essential role was being done by volunteers. It is heavy training and a serious commitment β to take on a case, and a child.
In April 2023, CASA of the Ninth asked Lead With Love for help supporting their advocates. That request became the Care for Caregivers Program, and the first C4C retreat followed, hosted together with CASA of the Ninth and Aspen Community Foundation.
Caregivers see that others are struggling, and doing something to help is within their nature. We wanted to offer care too β but this time, for the caregivers.

Every level puts a caregiver in the room. Gifts of any size are welcome and pooled toward scholarships.

Full destination retreat
Sends one caregiver on a weeklong international retreat. Covers everything but airfare β six nights at an extraordinary location.

Covers half a destination retreat place, pooled with other gifts to send a caregiver who could not otherwise attend.

Who Qualifies
Everyone is a caregiver in some capacity. The C4C program is intended for people who work professionally as caregivers for a 501(c)(3) non-profit or government agency. Recipients are prioritised as follows, with exceptions at the discretion of the Lead With Love Board of Directors.
Works at a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization or government agency that supports neglected and abused children
Priority is given to anyone working with a local or national CASA or GAL organization
Manages or oversees staff
Lives in the Roaring Fork Valley, Colorado
Works in mental health care serving children, or serving people who serve children
How Caregivers Are Chosen
A transparent process, so you know exactly where your gift lands.
Step 1
We put out the call
Opportunities are promoted through social media, our newsletter, and directly to a vetted list of Roaring Fork Valley caregivers curated with CASA of the Ninth.
Step 2
Anyone can nominate
People nominate themselves or a colleague by email, Instagram DM, or our Nominate a Caregiver form.
Step 3
The board reviews monthly
The Lead With Love Board of Directors meets monthly to review nominees against the criteria and select recipients.
Step 4
The gift is offered
Selected caregivers are notified in writing and have one week to accept, after which an alternate is chosen.
